Climate disaster is coming
There is a global ecological catastrophe on the planet that can destroy everything that moves. The climate is abnormal in all parts of the world. The last week of September brought a storm in Italy, wildfires in Greece, snow in Austria and Switzerland after 20-degree heat. Abnormal heat is present throughout European Russia, causing serious forest fires in the black earth zone.

In the United States, all summer the record heat (California — up to 54 degrees C) causes monstrous forest fires in strength and duration. According to the World Meteorological Organization (WMO), the northern hemisphere experienced its warmest August on record.

The same data was provided by the United States National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA): from June to August, temperatures were 1.17 degrees Celsius above average. The 2020 fire season on the west coast of the United States is a record-breaking season. The UN warned that in addition to death and destruction, the fires affected the air quality for millions of people and made the sky orange. The clouds of smoke billowing over the western Pacific Ocean travel more than 2,000 kilometers to the US East Coast, leading to an unusual smog in New York. The US National Hurricane Center has announced the arrival of at least five tropical cyclones over the Atlantic Basin, a record number.
In Russia, the glacier of Moscow State University, which in the middle of the 20th century was considered the second largest and longest in the Urals, has completely melted. This was reported by specialists from the Scientific Center for the Study of the Arctic and the Lomonosov Moscow State University during a glaciological expedition to the glaciers of the Polar Urals. At the time of its discovery, in 1953, the length of the glacier reached 2.2 km.

By 2050, during the summer period, the Arctic Ocean will be able to completely free itself of ice — this is the conclusion of researchers from the University of Hamburg, the results of the work are published in the journal Geophysical Research Letters.

The whole world is turning green trying to stave off climate collapse
The entire world is worried about the impending disaster and is taking measures to stop global warming caused by large emissions of greenhouse gases as a result of thoughtless human activities. For the sake of reducing emissions, the whole world is striving to abandon hydrocarbon fuels, moving towards obtaining energy from renewable sources.
Even China, which creates environmental problems for the whole world, is changing its policy, actively introducing renewable sources into the energy balance, building more and more wind and solar power plants, and applying and exporting modern green technologies. China remains the world leader in the introduction of new photovoltaic capacity, even though the installation of solar panels has slowed somewhat over the past year and a half, which is associated with inadequate tariffs for green energy. So, in 2018, a total of 66 GW of wind and solar capacities were commissioned. The latter occupy a record 44 GW in this volume. In 2019, this figure dropped to 56 GW, of which 30 GW is solar energy.

Greece became the European champion in the use of renewable energy sources On September 14, it was recorded that wind and solar power generation systems covered 51% of electricity demand, and this percentage rises to 57%, taking into account the large hydroelectric power plants. On the same day, wind covered more than 40% of demand, the highest in Europe.

Representatives of 30 European companies on September 16 expressed their support for the Green Deal as a growth strategy for Europe after the COVID-19 pandemic in a joint statement. They said it was an opportunity to reset the European economy with a new growth model: the pursuit of zero emissions, renewable energy and low-carbon industries. Business in the usual sense will no longer exist: a green deal is needed to rebuild Europe.

British lawyers have filed an unprecedented climate lawsuit against 33 countries on behalf of young Portuguese for failing to do their part to prevent a climate catastrophe. This is the first case of its kind about climate. The lawsuit was filed against all EU countries, as well as against Norway, Russia, Switzerland, Turkey, Ukraine and the UK.

Following Portugal, in Spain, for the first time in the country’s history, three non-profit organizations — Greenpeace, Oxfam Intermon (an organization for reducing social and economic inequality in the world) and Ecologists in Action (Ecologistas en Accion) — decided to initiate a lawsuit against the government, demanding in court to reduce emissions by 55% by 2030. The aim is to urge the authorities to provide tougher measures to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, which will be critical in the fight against global warming. The Integrated Energy and Climate Plan is the roadmap that the European Commission requires from all EU members to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 2030.

In New Zealand, the left-wing Greens said that if it forms a government again after the October elections, it will require the financial sector to disclose annually the impact of the climate crisis on their businesses. This policy will be the first in the world, said the climate change minister and party co-leader. «Australia, Canada, the United Kingdom, France, Japan and the European Union are all working on some form of climate risk reporting for companies,» he said. «But New Zealand is ahead of them by mandating the disclosure of climate risk across the financial system.» About 200 organizations will be required to disclose information about their exposure to climate risks, including such as the country’s accident compensation system and the national pension fund.

Russia ignores global green trends, clinging to the oil and gas complex
A countdown has started for the Russian economy: the European Union, the largest consumer of Russian hydrocarbons, intends to completely abandon fossil fuels such as oil and gas, said European Energy Commissioner Kadri Simson, answering a question about the fate of the Nord Stream-2 pipeline. Europe gives preference to decarbonated gas, for example, hydrogen, which means the breakdown of the system of the Russian economy, which was established in the 70s of the last century, when Russia exchanged mineral raw materials for technologies and consumer goods, abandoning their production within the country.

When the demand and prices for oil fell during the pandemic, the Russian Federation, having no tanks for storing reserves and processing them, followed a barbaric path: it burned excess oil.

The coronavirus pandemic and the collapse of world hydrocarbon prices have made Russian oil and gas companies unprofitable. Thus, Gazprom, which forms the bulk of the budget, received a record loss in 6 years. National Treasure, a company that has a monopoly on the export of Russian pipeline gas, suffered a net loss of RUB 116.2 billion. Gazprom ended the quarter with a negative result for the first time in five years. At the same time, the size of the loss became a record one since the end of the crisis year 2014.

The whole world is moving towards sustainable green technologies. Only Russia remains outside the green movement of all progressive humanity, remaining an archaic black-oil outcast. The government of the Russian Federation, ignoring the global trends in green development, clinging exclusively to the oil and gas sector amid falling global demand for its products, is leading the country to economic collapse.
